Ingrid Michaelson’s “The Way I Am” reached #31 on US pop charts, without the aid of a record company. Instead, her music has been featured on the sitcom Grey’s Anatomy and Old Navy commercial.
Her poetic singing paired with acoustic guitar and piano hit at just the right level of sentiment without venturing into the land of cheesy. Even with such commercial success Ingrid still manages to keep creative control of her own music, and plans to keep it that way.
She’s known to greet concert attendees by name, and whole audiences sing along without any prompt. Her concerts are full of humor and sometimes feature covers of Vanillas Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” and a rap remix and change of lyrics to her smash hit “The Way I am.”
