“Brent Knopf sounds very lonely on his first album as Ramona Falls. He could be homesick for Menomena, his day-job Portland, Oregon trio, but more likely he’s bummed about the former flame that quits wanting him in “Clover,” ignores his worldly travels in “Russia,” or tries to drown him in “Salt Sack.” (And you thought your ex-girlfriend sucked.) Thankfully, Knopf’s unpredictable melodies and funky orchestral arrangements (played by 35 indie- rock acquaintances!) keep tracks like “I Say Fever” and “Always Right” lively, resulting in an album that leans more toward epic than emo.” –Sarah Dupuis, Spin.com
“As the story goes, Knopf visited each cluster of contributing friends—members of The Helio Sequence, Loch Lomond, Talkdemonic, Mirah, and Matt Sheehy, among others—on its home turf, jammed for two-plus hours, then meticulously carved Intuit’s 11 songs from the glut of material. But the story is more engaging than the finished work, and without, say, a documentary of the process, Knopf only succeeds in doing more of what Menomena does best (which is to say, “better than Ramona Falls”): carving out handsomely arranged albums overstuffed with ideas.” –Chris Martins, avclub.com
Win A Pair Of Tickets: The name of Brent’s solo project is actually a real (and very beautiful) natural attraction in his native Oregon. To enter to win a tickets to his show, leave a comment with the name of a place that inspires you so much that you’d feel inclined to name your own hypothetical solo project after it. What do you love about this location? Get your comments in by this Friday (September 4th) at 6:00 pm. A winner will be announced shortly thereafter.

The bathroom. Sounds trite but think of how inspired most people get there, away from any real way to get down your thoughts. Solo project would be called either “Potty down” or “Off the Pot: Sh*tters are Quitters”
