Chan Marshall, the smokey-voiced songstress better known to the world as Cat Power, has announced that her next album will be recorded without the backing musicianship of her longtime friends in Dirty Delta Blues.
She recently spoke to The Courier-Mail and revealed, “…I’m at a point where my heart tells me, Chan, you haven’t played piano or guitar for four or five years, and I do have guilt about that. People ask me, ‘When are you going to play by yourself?’ I have problems with strange yearnings and guilt.”
Marshall, who has struggled with artistic self-doubt and depression throughout her career, made the announcement amid several other confessions of uncertainty, but anyone who has heard her music knows that her worries are unfounded. A career filled with inventive, moving albums (including 2008′s covers album, Jukebox) leaves us salivating to hear what this massively talented songwriter will come up with next.
