We are devastated to report the unexpected passing of yet another young, wildly talented artist. 29 year old Memphis-based garage rocker, Jay Reatard, passed away in his sleep last night. His body was discovered early this morning by his roommate. The cause of his death is currently under investigation.
Jay (real name Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr.) was one of the modern independent rock world’s most beloved sons. “Demented, melancholy, and in lust with rock’s fuck-it essence, Jay Reatard is making the freshest, most exhilarating records in the indie world today,” wrote The A.V. Club‘s Jason Heller in 2008.
He will be missed. R.I.P. Jay.
