  1. #3. Cortez the Killer – Neil Young

#2. Cemetery Gates – Dimebag Darrell

#1. Whole Lotta Love – Jimmy Page

  2. Without a doubt, Slash’s guitar solo in “November Rain” tops my list. Plus, you get to imagine him standing in front of that church in the desert that seemed to be much smaller from the outside than it was on the inside. Sort of like a Tardis, eh?

I also love the deliberately slow, heavy, sexy guitar solo in “Magic Man” by Heart.

Aaand…Prince’s short and to-the-point guitar solos in “Let’s Go Crazy.” I love it partly because of how they sounds, and partly because of how magnificent he looks whilst playing them.

  3. As someone who started getting into music in the 80′s, here are my three hair band heavy picks for guitar solo: Steve Vai’s soaring guitar on David Lee Roth’s ‘Just Like Paradise’ was incredible. Slash from ‘Sweet Child o’ Mine’. And Joe Satriani’s ‘Surfing with the Alien’ – I remember seeing him play at the Alliant energy Center back in 91 or 92 and being completely in awe.

  4. November Rain – Slash
    Stairway to Heaven – Page
    Yellow Ledbetter – McCready

  5. Nevermore’s Jeff Loomis – This Godless Endeavor
Decapitated’s Vogg – Three Dimentional Defect
Jimi Hendrix – All Along the Watchtower
    Counting Crows – Good Time
    Duane Allman – Hot’lanta

  6. Well done, Simon! You’re going to see Slash tomorrow night. Congrats!
