2 Rasin (de ra-seen) translated as “two roots,” refers to the blend of music that is formed from the musical traditions of two cultures. The group plays original music by songwriter/vocalist Mona Augustin, accompanied by American finger-picking lead guitarist Ron Bluntschli, Haitian bassist Michelet Calice, Haitian master drummer Raymond Noel, percussionist Jean David Baptiste, American classically trained violinist/vocalist Carla Bluntschli and back-up vocalist William Loussaint
2 Rasin band leader Mona Augustin and Haiti Allies together relocated a tent camp formed in Port au Prince in the aftermath of the January 2010 earthquake. Through the organizational effort of Mona Augustin and Haiti Allies, 125 vulnerable families moved to new homes on government-appointed land in Camp Mosayic, a rural community located about 25 minutes outside of Port au Prince. Augustin will share stories from his own life and those of the families in Camp Mosayic
The concert is being offered on a free-will basis, donations of $10-20 per person are encouraged. Haitian artwork and CDs will be offered for sale. Money raised will benefit 2 Rasin’s U.S. tour and Haiti Allies’ efforts in Haiti.
