After taking a listen to their upcoming Sub Pop LP, The Slideshow Effect, it’s hard to dispute that Memoryhouse have officially arrived. While their previous release, The Years EP, showed promise, Slideshow expands upon it in nearly every way.
This is dream pop at its finest, awash in hazes of light distortion and lighter flourishes of psychedelia. Comparisons to Beach House will be inevitable, which is a shame because Memoryhouse definitely have their own legs to stand on. There’s a certain meticulous dedication to the details of their craft that a lot of other similar acts forsake in favor of creating an underlying atmosphere. While that tactic can certainly be effective and often achieve the desired results for a particular song, it’s nice to hear a band in this genre approach things from a more tactical angle and pull it off effortlessly while still retaining an atmosphere of its own.

Make no mistake about it, Memoryhouse aren’t pulling any punches on The Slideshow Effect and are primed to explode. They may even end up being the soundtrack to your summer. More excitingly, though, they’ll be bringing their live show to one of Madison’s best venues, the High Noon Saloon on Wednesday, February 29, for ridiculously cheap prices ($8 in advance and $10 at the door). With two opening acts, Tiny Fireflies and Land of Vandals, there’s no way you’re going to be able to beat that deal. After all, who wouldn’t mind a bit of summer sun this early in the year?
