BIOGRAPHY:

Comedian/Actress/Activist Margaret Cho has now also added singer/songwriter to her list of credentials and will be bringing all of that talent with her in her one woman show at the Capitol Theater on Thursday, October 14 at 8pm.

This fall’s tour will be featuring a healthy mix of new comedy and live music.  In the spirit of Cho’s diverse identity and equally diverse career, her tour will feature her burgeoning foray into the realm of  comedy music.  She will be showcasing songs from her album, Cho Dependent, which will feature guest appearances by Patty Griffin, Jon Brion, Grant Lee Phillips, and others.  The shows will also feature her trademark raunchy, socially relevant and politically-charged comedy and offer a unique chance to see her in a more intimate setting as she develops songs from her forthcoming album.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Margaret Cho started performing stand-up at the age of 16 in a comedy club above her parents’ bookstore.  Soon after she won a comedy contest with first prize being the honor of opening a show for Jerry Seinfeld.  Later she moved to Los Angeles which led to appearances on the college circuit, Arsenio Hall, a Bob Hope prime time special and 1994’s short-lived ABC Sitcom All-American Girl.

Cho’s one-woman shows have garnered her critical acclaim. Her performance Notorious C.H.O. was recorded live at Carnegie Hall while on a 37-city tour and was hailed by the New York Times as “Brilliant!”  More cheers from critics for Revolution in 2003 and State of Emergency in 2004, True Colors Tour with Cyndi Lauper and others in 2007, and most recently Beautiful which premiered in Sydney Australia.  With each project, her work has gotten more political and topical bringing her audiences closer to her.

In addition to a busy touring schedule, Margaret has proven herself an established writer and blogger having published two books as well as a narrative feature Bam Bam and Celeste.  She can also be found acting in the Lifetime comedic drama Drop Dead Diva and in a recurring role on CBS’ Ghost Whisperer.
