  1. “Livin’ For The City” by Jonny Lang. Before I heard that song, I figured he was just a studio-produced musician, boosted by a great backing band, plenty of editing, and high production values (obviously I hadn’t listened too closely before then). Boy was I wrong. Once you hear someone play something live, you know what their true talent is. It opened the door to one of my favorite artists.

  2. Carolina Chocolate Drops’s “Hit ’em up style.” I hadn’t heard them before that and knew I needed all their music *immediately.*
