True Endeavors’ Question Of The Week: Live The Life That I Had Made In Song

Jackson Browne

With the great Jackson Browne‘s July 16 Madison concert at Overture Hall swiftly approaching, we thought we’d let some of his timeless lyrics inspire this week’s question.

Specifically, we’d like you to consider his line from “These Days” when Browne sings about living “the life that he has made in song.”  Every now and then, a song will come along that feels like it was written just for you; a fit so perfect it seems like it must have been created based on your own life.  We want to know about what these are for you.  Post a comment telling us about the songs or lyrics (by any artist) that you feel like you’ve experienced on a deeply personal level, and you’ll be entered to win a pair of tickets to a True Endeavors club show of your choice!  (Click here to check out our current lineup.)

Have your responses posted by 6pm on Sunday, July 20.  A winner will be chosen and notified shortly thereafter.  Good luck!

Dogfish Head Says Cheers To Guided By Voices With BEER Thousand

Bee Thousand

Believe it or not, it’s been 20 years since the release of Guided By Voices‘ wildly influential Bee Thousand, and the good folks at Dogfish Head Brewery are celebrating in a big way.

Fans attending the band’s Madison show at the Barrymore Theatre tonight (Friday, June 20) will be treated to a preview of the brewmasters’ brand new BEER Thousand, “an imperial lager, chosen to echo the copious amounts of lager that fueled GBV’s garage recordings, is brewed with 10 grains and 10 hop varieties, and clocks in at 10% ABV.  10x10x10 = BEER Thousand.”  Read more here.

Don’t miss your chance to be among the first to knock back this delicious new brew while bathing in 90’s indie rock glory!  Tickets are still available here.

Guided By Voices Stun In San Francisco: In Madison TONIGHT (6.20.14)!

Guided By Voices

If these glowing words about Guided By Voices recent Regency performance in San Francisco don’t convince you that tonight’s Madison set is not-to-be-missed, perhaps the review’s accompanying explosive live photos will do the trick!

Heck, even shaky crowd footage of this great show isn’t looking half-bad:

We can’t wait to see the indie rock vets take the Barrymore stage with support from Bobby Bare Jr later this evening.  Tickets are still available here.

Madison Bitten By The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger

Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger

Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl’s experimental psych rock project, The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger, has been getting all sorts of critical acclaim for their most recent (and “first proper”) record, Midnight Sun.

“It is not pretentious and it is not pompous–here is an ingenuous album made by a couple of odd cherubs who just happen to be, inescapably, two of the Beautiful People,” says The Quietus.  PopMatters goes further to declare, “Midnight Sun is a true jewel, and worthy of the linage of one member’s predecessor.”

77 Square‘s Jessie Opoien got the opportunity to pick Mr. Lennon’s brain about the magic behind the music that has everyone talking—and listening. Check out their interview here, and don’t forget to pick up your tickets to see the band live in Madison at the High Noon Saloon tomorrow (Saturday, May 31).

Still Fighting: Neko Case In Madison TONIGHT (5.14.14)

Neko Case

Tickets are still available to see the incredible Neko Case take the stage at the Orpheum Theater this evening (Wednesday, May 14) in support of her latest album, The Worse Things Get, the Harder I Fight, the Harder I Fight, the More I Love You.

Before rolling into town, Case chatted with 77 Square about what she’s been up to and the hardships that inspired her recent music.   If her recent performance on Conan is any indication, tonight’s show will be electrifying and unforgettable.  We hope to see you there!
