Nationally-acclaimed musician Willy Porter is returning to Art in the Barn, 5927 Adams Rd., Fitchburg, WI to perform a benefit concert for Haiti Allies on Saturday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m. Porter’s first concert for Haiti Allies in 2012 was a standing-room-only show that delivered an evening of songs with rich lyrics and accomplished finger-style guitar accompaniments.
Porter’s music moves easily from guitar-driven rock to the open-tuned wonderland of the new acoustic frontier. His live shows combine his guitar playing, songwriting and on-stage improvisational skills as a storyteller and performance artist. Fellow artist Tori Amos says “Willy plays rhythms that make me want to crawl inside his guitar and sleep there forever.”
With a career spanning more than 20 years, Porter’s latest CD is entitled, Cheeseburgers & Gasoline, (released Nov 2012) and is available from Weasel Records. According to Billboard magazine,”Porter accentuates well-rendered tales with spit-fire-percussive acoustic guitar strumming and fiery color – chord picking.”
A show in this intimate venue delivers an up-close-and-personal interplay with the featured artist that’s truly unique in the music scene. People attending the event are encouraged to come early and bring a picnic meal to enjoy before the concert. Handmade Haitian artwork and Madison-based Rusty Dog Coffee will be offered for sale. Money raised will benefit Haiti Allies’ efforts in Haiti.
Tickets are $25 (children 6 and under are free) and available here or at Art in the Barn on the day of the show.
