IVAW Sends Their Thanks!

If you were among the lucky attendees at Saturday night’s Joan Baez concert, you not only got to experience an evening of wonderful music from a legendary artist, you helped support an important cause as well. Silent auction donations and $1 from every ticket sold went to support Iraq Veterans Against The War (IVAW).

Joan Baez Concert Benefits IVAW-Madison

True Endeavors, a local promoter that we have worked with in the past to table at local music shows, set up the event and arranged for IVAW-Madison to be the benefactor of $1 for each ticket sold for the Joan Baez concert on Saturday. We were chosen from a list of local non-profits by Baez. Thanks to each of the 810 people who purchased a ticket and attended the show and thanks to True Endeavors for suggesting IVAW as a benefactor.

IVAW-Madison also thanks all of those who helped us hold up a silent auction at the event. Thanks to donations from the following businesses, authors, and artists we were also able to raise an additional $800:

Joan Baez Still Fighting The Good Fight

Joan Baez

On March 14th, in her 50th year as a performer, Joan Baez will return to Madison’s Barrymore Theater!

Baez has enjoyed a legendary career and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.  She recently released her 24th album, Day After Tomorrow to rave reviews.   The Boston Globe says, “A half century into her career, folk icon Joan Baez is making a return of sorts—not to vintage material, but to songs that evoke the spirit and message of her defining early work…Baez has never sounded wiser, or more deeply human.”

In addition to the folk icon’s gift for songwriting and brilliant interpretation of her contemporaries’ songs, Baez is highly respected for her devotion to social causes.  Her upcoming performance in Madison will not only be a showcase for her extraordinary talent, but a concert for a cause.

For every ticket purchased, $1 will be donated to benefit Iraq Veterans Against The War. Founded in 2004, IVAW calls for the immediate withdrawl of troops from Iraq, support for the veterans who have served, as well as reparations for the Iraqi people.
