You may have noticed that we’ve been adding new shows left and right lately (see our Music Calendar for the latest).   We’re hard at work putting together a pleasantly busy fall schedule to entertain, educate, and delight your ears as summer fades away.  But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves!  There’s still plenty of hot lazy days ahead of us to fill with great tunes.

Artists You Should Know: Jonny Lang

Grammy-winning songwriter and guitar master Jonny Lang has lived and breathed the blues since he was a child.  He released his solo debut, Lie To Me, when he was only 15 years old, and has been a major player on the modern blues scene ever since.  Over the years he has even shared stages with artists like B.B. King, Jeff Beck, Aerosmith, and the Rolling Stones.

We’ve always been in awe of Jonny’s virtuosic approach to the guitar, and are anticipating a naturally stellar performance when he plays Madison on July 11th at the Capitol Theatre (tickets available here).  If you’re one of the few people out there who hasn’t heard of Jonny before, don’t worry—allow us to introduce him.  Read on to learn more about this talented artist and his upcoming Madison gig.

Madison Week In Music + Ticket Giveaways (6.30-7.06): Black Mountain and Wisconsin Is Better Smoke Free–A Celebration Featuring VO5 and Freedy Johnston

Wisconsinites will be celebrating more than just Independence Day this week.  Beginning on Monday, July 5th, absolutely all Wisconsin bars and restaurants will be smoke-free.  This is a BIG deal, and we’re marking the occasion with a free celebration at The High Noon Saloon with performances from VO5 and Freedy Johnston.

We know next Monday can feel like a lifetime away, so if you want to get some concert action in before then, we highly recommend catching Black Mountain on Wednesday (June 30th).  These psych rockers’ sound bring to mind artists like Dead Meadow, BRMC, The Black Angels, Darker My Love and The Brian Jonestown Massacre.

All Music Guide says that this Vancouver-based band’s music “busts open half-lidded Velvet Underground fetishisms with squalls of Blue Cheer guitar, and further channels the heady sounds of the late ’60s with a moodily dwelling organ.”  Not bad, eh?
