Madison Week In Music + Ticket Giveaways (12.7.11 – 12.13.11): Bon Iver (Scavenger Hunt Hint # 1), Medicine (A Tribute To The Music Of Marques Bovre), and G-Side

Marques Bovre

This is a big week for music here in Madison.  One of Wisconsin’s most famous sons, Grammy-nominated Bon Iver, returns home this week, making a stop in town on Saturday.  The show sold out almost immediately, but we’ve paired up with the A.V. Club to give away two tickets to one lucky participant in our Good Winter Scavenger Hunt (more details below)!

In this season of giving, we will take time to reflect on all the wonderful music and memories that local songwriter and dear friend Marques Bovre (pictured) has bestowed upon us, and try to give back to him on Sunday evening with Medicine, a musical tribute concert featuring some of the region’s finest acts, including a performance from Marques himself.  Donations made at the door will assist Marques and his family in covering expenses related to his cancer treatment.

We’re also thrilled to welcome hip hop act G-Side to the High Noon Saloon next Monday.  Pitchfork says the duo “turns songs that are celebratory of simple things (a girl sending sexy cell-phone pictures, visiting Paris for the first time) or full of thoughtful sentiments (supporting family, helping community) into something epic.”  We can’t wait to see what they’ll pull off live.

Madison Week In Music + Ticket Giveaways (7.28-8.3): Greg Laswell & Cary Brothers, John Eddie, Lucero, Bill Maher, and The Portland Cello Project

Portland Cello Project

You may have noticed that we’ve been adding new shows left and right lately (see our Music Calendar for the latest).   We’re hard at work putting together a pleasantly busy fall schedule to entertain, educate, and delight your ears as summer fades away.  But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves!  There’s still plenty of hot lazy days ahead of us to fill with great tunes.

Take this week for example.  Maybe a little rock, a pinch of comedy, or even a sprinkle of classical performances can seduce your senses in the coming days as we welcome the likes of Greg Laswell & Cary Brothers, John Eddie, Lucero, Bill Maher, and The Portland Cello Project to Madison.  (We’re also looking forward to presenting a second John Eddie show in Milwaukee this week if you can’t make the Madison gig.)  Read on to get the show details and find out how to win tickets!

Madison Week In Music + Ticket Giveaways (2.10-2.16): Gene Ween

Gene Ween

“For Ween fans, Aaron Freeman aka Gene Ween, playing a tiny, acoustic concert is akin to Bruce Springsteen playing a secret bar show in Jersey.” –-PopMatters.com

Well, there’s just one show this week, but it promises to pack enough fun into one evening to keep you satisfied for a long while.  Gene Ween, of the beloved alterna-indie rock band Ween, will be performing solo at the High Noon Saloon this Thursday.  As if that weren’t cool enough, Milwaukee’s accordion-slingin’ butt kickin’ Pezzettino will be kicking the evening off with her quirky, cute, and ferocious songs.  Just try to get through the night without a smile plastered on your face.  We dare ya.
