Madison’s Own Icarus Himself Gets A Nod From Daytrotter

Icarus Himself

We love it when local acts start getting the recognition they deserve.  Congrats to Madison-based indie band Icarus Himself, who just recorded a session for the perpetually hip folks over at Daytrotter.  Their shimmering, emotionally dense tunes are poised to make big waves in the indie world. We look forward to hearing more from these guys!

Rave Reivew For Bela Fleck and The Flecktones’ Holiday Show In Madison

We promised an unforgettable holiday music performance from Bela Fleck, and his Flecktones, and boy, did they deliver!  You don’t have to take our word for it though.  Just listen to what Madison.com’s Rob Thomas had to say:

“Fleck is no stranger to playing in Madison, but Sunday’s show was truly special. The Flecktones’ approach to Christmas music not only showcased the incredible creativity and ability of every member of the band, it let you appreciate songs you’ve heard a billion times as music again, instead of just big-box store background noise.”

The Word From Brother Ali Straight From The Barrymore + TV Appearance TONIGHT 12.15.09

When Brother Ali brought his Fresh Air Tour to the Barrymore Theatre last month, Madison was treated to a performance by one of the most impressive new stars of the rap world.  His latest release, Us, has been widely praised in the music press and has landed on several “Best of 2009” lists.  We were thrilled to bring this Madison-born artist back to town, and from the sounds of this insightful video interview, Ali was pretty thrilled to be here too!  Check out what he had to say, and see if you can spot yourself in the crowd shots.

Need more Brother Ali?  He’ll take the stage alongside The Roots as the special guest performer on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tonight.  (NBC, 11:35 pm)

Download The Swell Season Live In Concert

Seattle’s way hip KEXP radio station has made the The Swell Season performance from their October VIP Club Concert Series available for download on NPR’s website.  Listen to Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova perform an intimate, stipped down live set of songs including “Falling Slowly,” (the breakout hit from their breakout film, Once) and a gorgeous cover of Tim Buckley’s jazzy folk number,”Buzzin’ Fly.”
