Madison Bitten By The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger

Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger

Sean Lennon and Charlotte Kemp Muhl’s experimental psych rock project, The Ghost Of A Saber Tooth Tiger, has been getting all sorts of critical acclaim for their most recent (and “first proper”) record, Midnight Sun.

“It is not pretentious and it is not pompous–here is an ingenuous album made by a couple of odd cherubs who just happen to be, inescapably, two of the Beautiful People,” says The Quietus.  PopMatters goes further to declare, “Midnight Sun is a true jewel, and worthy of the linage of one member’s predecessor.”

77 Square‘s Jessie Opoien got the opportunity to pick Mr. Lennon’s brain about the magic behind the music that has everyone talking—and listening. Check out their interview here, and don’t forget to pick up your tickets to see the band live in Madison at the High Noon Saloon tomorrow (Saturday, May 31).

It’s been a week since we kicked off our third annual FRZN Fest at the High Noon Saloon, and we’re still reeling from all the excitement of the incredible performances.  Photographer Megan Monday caught sets from festival artists Milagres, Escondito, and Communist Daughter (pictured above) and has graciously allowed us to take a peek through her camera lens. Enjoy her live shots after the jump.

(Don’t forget to post your FRZN Fest reflections here for a chance to win a pair of tickets to a club show of your choice.)

Now Streaming: Fire Retarded’s “Meat Stairs”

Fire Retarded

Our friends in Fire Retarded recently got some love from Impose who remarked that “Meat Stairs” (the first track from their upcoming Scroggz Manor album) “moves fast enough for you to lose track of your own heartbeat, and as the group pounds through a hypnotic refrain, a blistering solo is not far off, making the ultimate trio of heavy shit, sludgy shit, and take-no-prisoners vocal stylings move the track through to its crashing conclusion.”

Take a listen here, and catch the band live in Madison as part of our annual FRZN Fest on January 18.

Live Concert Photos: Ingrid Michaelson

Ingrid Michaelson Madison WI live concert photography Capitol Theater

Ingrid Michaelson‘s most recent Madison concert was massive.  The red haired pop-inspired indie songstress sold out the Capitol Theatre for her April 14 show, and every last pair of eyes and ears in the building belonged completely to her as she performed an inspired set for her fans.

If you weren’t able to snatch up a pair of tickets before they were all gone (and heck, even if you were), don’t miss photographer Darren Lee‘s gorgeous shots from the evening after the jump.
