Parquet Courts Debuts Three New Songs On NPR’s World Cafe

Parquet Courts

Don’t get us wrong; we are loving “Stoned and Starving” (the lead single off of Parquet Courts‘ much-raved-about release, Light Up Gold), but we’ve been waiting to hear more new material from the punky Brooklyn-based foursome.  As if a musical genie granted our wish, we were thrilled to find that the band recently performed three new tracks for NPR’s renowned World Cafe program.  Take a listen and tell us what you think.

Be sure to pick up your tickets to see the band live in Madison at the High Noon Saloon on June 22.

Parquet Courts Land In Spin’s Top 40 Of 2013 (So Far!)

Parquet Courts

“Stoned and Starving,” a track from NYC-based punk rock quartet Parquet Courts, was recently given the honor of being included in Spin‘s picks for the top 40 songs of the year (so far)!  The emerging band received these glowing words:

From the Velvet Underground to the Modern Lovers to Richard Hell to Jim Carroll to R.E.M. to the Dream Syndicate to Galaxie 500 to Pavement to the Strokes to countless others, there have always been heady rock bands trying to lock down an agitated, trance-like guitar-bass-drums groove over which some poetically inclined young man or other can intone cryptic lyrics with a flat affect and vaguely nihilistic/existential swagger. In 21st-century New York City, Parquet Courts are keeping the faith, shuffling nervously through Ridgewood, Queens, flipping through magazines, perusing junk food, playing scratch-offs, and savoring the feedback loveliness of the extended outro.

What do you think?   Don’t miss Parquet Courts when they play Madison’s High Noon Saloon on Saturday, June 22.  Get your tickets here.

Now Streaming: Parquet Courts’ “Light Up Gold”

Parquet Courts

Light Up Gold is one of the best debut albums you’ll hear all year.” – NME

Light Up Gold, the debut full-length record from NYC rockers Parquet Courts is now available for streaming.  If you’re a fan of bands like Jaill, Iceage, Mazes, and Bass Drum Of Death, then you definitely want to check this out.

Rolling Stone went a bit further and said, “Parquet Courts are especially versed in the clipped, repetitive buzz of Wire’s ’77 classic Pink Flag, but, like Pavement, they soften post-punk’s cranky edge with the glazed, lonely wonderment of fresh, wide-eyed New York transplants.”  We’re sold!   Check out their live KEXP performance below…

The band will be in Madison for a show at the High Noon Saloon on June 22.  Tickets are still available here, but going fast, so hurry and snag yours while you still can.
