Portland Cello Project Takes On Beck’s Song Reader

Portland Cello Project

Beck‘s latest release, Song Reader, leaves much to the imagination—almost everything, in fact.  Instead of releasing an album of recorded performance, this time around Beck elected to offer only sheet music of his latest creation; urging fans to interpret his work in their own way.

Never a group to shy away from interpreting the music of others, Portland Cello Project eagerly took on the challenge and have recorded the entirety of Song Reader for your listening pleasure.  Check it out over at NPR.

Undoubtedly, more artists will release their versions of the album in the coming weeks and months.  Who would you love to hear take on Beck’s tunes?

Portland Cello Project

As the political unrest continues here in Madison, we’d like to salute the determination of all those who stand in opposition to the governor’s repulsive agenda as the eyes of the nation look upon us.  These are indeed important, exciting, frightening, and inspiring times.

We hope you’ll all continue to fight the good fight, but also take time to relax and recharge with some live music around town this week.  We’re giving away a pair of tickets to shows from Nicole Atkins & The Black Sea, Portland Cello Project (pictured), Roger Clyne, and Nice & High.  Read on to find out how you could win!

Madison Week In Music + Ticket Giveaways (7.28-8.3): Greg Laswell & Cary Brothers, John Eddie, Lucero, Bill Maher, and The Portland Cello Project

Portland Cello Project

You may have noticed that we’ve been adding new shows left and right lately (see our Music Calendar for the latest).   We’re hard at work putting together a pleasantly busy fall schedule to entertain, educate, and delight your ears as summer fades away.  But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves!  There’s still plenty of hot lazy days ahead of us to fill with great tunes.

Take this week for example.  Maybe a little rock, a pinch of comedy, or even a sprinkle of classical performances can seduce your senses in the coming days as we welcome the likes of Greg Laswell & Cary Brothers, John Eddie, Lucero, Bill Maher, and The Portland Cello Project to Madison.  (We’re also looking forward to presenting a second John Eddie show in Milwaukee this week if you can’t make the Madison gig.)  Read on to get the show details and find out how to win tickets!
