The Word From Brother Ali Straight From The Barrymore + TV Appearance TONIGHT 12.15.09

When Brother Ali brought his Fresh Air Tour to the Barrymore Theatre last month, Madison was treated to a performance by one of the most impressive new stars of the rap world.  His latest release, Us, has been widely praised in the music press and has landed on several “Best of 2009” lists.  We were thrilled to bring this Madison-born artist back to town, and from the sounds of this insightful video interview, Ali was pretty thrilled to be here too!  Check out what he had to say, and see if you can spot yourself in the crowd shots.

Need more Brother Ali?  He’ll take the stage alongside The Roots as the special guest performer on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tonight.  (NBC, 11:35 pm)

Hip Hop: A Vehicle for Positive Change (plus ticket giveaway!)

We recently posted an editorial criticizing the negative cultural effects of gangsta rap’s bravado and glamorization of thug life (“The Game’s Game Is Lame”).  There are, however, always two sides of the coin.  With that in mind, we wanted to draw some attention to the ways rap and hip hop are acting as a positive force in society.  Additionally, we’re giving reader a chance to win tickets to see a high-quality hip hop performance from Del The Funky Homosapien!
