Madison Week In Music + Ticket Giveaways (8.11-8.17): Rooney, Smoke Free Sounds Series Featuring Cory Chisel, Dessa, and Lower Dens

Happy Monday, Madison!  Ready to hear about what’s going down in the music world?  Well, we’re kicking off this week’s shows with California power poppers, Rooney, and giving one lucky reader a pair of tickets to the show.  After that, our Smoke Free Sounds Series continues to sweep over the state—this time the show’s in Oshkosh, featuring Wisconsin native Cory Chisel.  This weekend, we’ll be welcoming one of our favorite hip hop songstresses, Dessa, back to town, and wrapping things up for the week with Jana Hunter’s new band, Lower Dens, on Tuesday.   A pretty great concert selection, if we do say so ourselves!  Read on to get more info, and enter to win those Rooney tix!

Artists You Should Know: Rooney

Rooney has overcome obstacles that left other bands in shambles. When many fell apart due to member changes and record label conflicts, Rooney used their unfortunate experiences to forge ahead in their journey.  For example, after recently cutting ties with Geffen Records, Rooney released their latest album, Eureka, on their newly formed label, California Dreamin’.  Critics have called their latest effort “fantastic,” breezy,” and “upbeat,” and we can’t wait to hear the new tunes in person when they stop by The High Noon Saloon next Wednesday.  Read on to find out how these California kids got to where they are today.

ROONEY Performs Live In Studio For VH1

As much as I love to sink my ears into the darker, moody side of rock, sometimes I just can’t resist falling for a sunny, well-written pop song.  One such tune that I’ve found myself crushing over pretty hard is Rooney‘s “I Don’t Wanna Lose You” (off of their recently-releaced record, Eureka).  Check out this live version of the song that the band performed for VH1 earlier this summer.

*POP QUIZ:  What awesome indie actor (who I’m also kinda crushing on) is a brother to the lead singer?

Speaking of good pop tunes, here’s an oldie but a goodie:

Can’t wait to hear this perfect-for-summer band when they take the stage at The High Noon Saloon on August 11th.  Get your tickets to see ’em now!

New Rooney Vid: “I Can’t Get Enough”

Those Rooney kids are back with another catchy, roll-the-windows-down tune, just in time for summer.  Check out their official retro-inspired roller skating party video (as well as a behind-the-scenes look at how it was made) for their latest single, “I Can’t Get Enough.”

We can’t get enough either—their sunny pop rock sound is majorly infectious, and we couldn’t be happier that they’ll be making a Madison stop on their summer tour.  Rooney will roll up to the High Noon Saloon on August 11.  Get your tickets here.

P.S. AltPress is hosting a pretty awesome contest for hardcore Rooney fans right now.  You could win an autographed copy of their new album, Eureka, or even a pair of rollerskates!  Click here to check it out.
