Ever since we heard that there was a Buddy Holly tribute album in the works we’ve been dying to hear the details. Now that we’ve discovered that it will feature artists like Lou Reed, Modest Mouse, Florence & The Machine, Patti Smith, and The Black Keys, we’re frothing at the mouth to get our hands on a copy of the album.
While we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the full package (Rave On Buddy Holly is set for release on June 28, 2011), we can get a taste of what’s in store with this delightful take on “Oh Boy” from She & Him. Thanks, Sterogum!
If you weren’t able to make it down to Manchester, Tennessee this year, don’t worry. You can still check out the sights and sounds of Bonnaroo on NPR. Their festival pages feature photos and live concert recordings of artists like The xx, Regina Spektor, She & Him, The Gossip, The National, The Flaming Lips, The Dead Weather, Melvins, LCD Soundsystem and tons more. We highly recommend that you check it out.
You may have heard about a new web series presented by Levi’s called The Pioneer Sessions. The series features video of artists who were “invited to re-craft the classic songs that inspired their sound.” Fans can then download an mp3 of the tune for free.
Sounds cool to us—especially considering that the latest installment stars indie sweethearts She & Him performing “Fools Rush In.” The pair completely blew us away at their Madison show at The Barrymore back in 2008, and we just can’t get enough of ’em. Head over to The Pioneer Sessions page to learn more about the series and grab your free download.
Oh, and you might want to bookmark The Pioneer Sessions site now, because in addition to posting previous recordings from Nas and The Swell Season, sessions from other incredible artists like The Kills, Dirty Projectors, and The Shins are on-deck.
How much cuter could these two be?! We’ve got our fingers crossed that M. and Zooey will come back to Madison and play for us again soon. Enjoy their video for “In The Sun,” off their upcoming release, Volume 2.
