What Happened To Alberta Cross?

You may have noticed the disappearance of the Jan. 28 Alberta Cross date from our music calendar.  Despite the fact that the show is still listed on the band’s site, that section of the evening is officially cancelled.  They accepted an alternate gig in LA, something about a Grammy party.  Can’t imagine why they would choose LA over WI in Jan…but fear not, they’ll be back again.

Plus you can give your undivided attention to Hacienda with local opening talent El Valiente and Jeremiah Nelson.  The ticket is now only $5, the time is still 9pm, and the ages are 18+.  Hacienda is a very cool band who have been on tour with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, functioning as his backing band on his side project. Let’s show up and support them!

If you’re still hurtin’ Daytrotter recently held an Alberta Cross session so get it while it’s hot.  Hey, get yourself some Cymbals Eat Guitars while you’re at it.

Let the healing begin.

Alash Ensemble first joined the Flecktones in 2008 their first-ever holiday record, the Grammy-winning Jingle All The Way. Newsweek writes:

Imagine a human bagpipe-a person who could sing a sustained low note while humming an eerie, whistle-like melody. For good measure, toss in a thrumming rhythm similar to that of a jaw harp, but produced vocally-by the same person, at the same time. Now imagine 4 guys that can do that at the same time!

Live Concert Photos: Colbie Caillat

Colbie Caillet live concert photo Madison WI Barrymore Theatre

If you weren’t at the Barrymore Saturday night (12/05/09) you missed a phenomenal performance by Colbie Caillat and her guitarist/opener Justin Young.  Smiling constantly she seemed to enjoy herself as much as the fans did.  Colbie’s passion for the music shined through as she led the crowd in sing-alongs and explained lyric meanings.  It proved to be an entertaining kick off to the holiday season as she broke in to Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas. This classic recording is part of a Special Olympics’ new CD, A Very Special Christmas 7.

Justin Young  -a fellow Hawaiian- mesmerized the crowd with his self-described “acoustic based, island influenced, soulful, pop music”.
