Tonight’s Set Details: THE DISCO BISCUITS and RAILROAD EARTH 10.29.09

Heads up music lovers!

The Disco Biscuits are playing the Wisconsin Union Theater TONIGHT!

Bisco

In the years since the band sprang out of the University of Pennsylvania party scene in the mid-’90s, the Disco Biscuits have brought together the worlds of jam bands and electronic music with its “trance-fusion” sound that mixes the free-form improvisations of jazz with the hypnotic rhythms which provided the soundtrack for rave culture.

Doors: 6pm

Orchard Lounge: 7pm

Ott: 8pm

The Disco Biscuits:

Set One: 9 -10:15pm

Set Two: 10:45 – 12:30pm

Also: RAILROAD EARTH is playing The Barrymore!

RRE.2008.1

Railroad Earth is a fun bunch of well-weathered Folk players, and they put on a heck of a show. Lead singer Todd Scheaffer always looks pleased with his bandmates, while mandolin master John Skehan just flat out rips on his instrument; and multi-instrumentalist Andy Goessling nonchalantly commands his beautifully subtle spotlight jams. – Kim Ruehl

Doors: 7pm

Great American Taxi: 8pm

Railroad Earth:

Set One: 9:15 – 10:15pm

Set Two: 10:45 – 12:00pm

Get your groove on and avoid the rain by checking out this show! Tickets are still available at The Barrymore box office (608-241-8633). See you there.

It’s not often that we have the opportunity to see a genuine cult icon perform in our fair city, but we’ll have that chance next week when Daniel Johnston takes the stage at The Barrymore Theatre.  The fragile vulnerability of his unique musical work has been championed by everyone from Kurt Cobain to Yo La Tengo, and it’s not hard to hear why.  There’s beauty in his shaking, nervous hands forced onstage by sheer courage and conviction and in the warbling, almost whispering, voice that invites you into his soul.  Read on to learn more about this beloved artist and find out how you could win tickets to his sure-to-be unforgettable show.
